Jason + Chloe

06-07-2024I grew up with Jason, and have known him for most of my life. Of course I took his proposal photos! After recently passing his PhD defense from UCI in neuroscience, Jason decided it was time to propose to Chloe. “We’re basically already married,” he said. So he told me a bit about his plan to make a treasure hunt out of it, ending at the Upper Newport Bay Preserve. When we got to the site, some people stood in the spot Jason chose for his proposal, and so he practiced on them (contact me if you want to see those pictures). And then when Chloe arrived (despite the fact that she missed one of the clues in the treasure hunt), Jason talked to her for a while, before pointing me out, and then, eventually, proposing. I guess he wanted Chloe to know what was going on, and did not want such a “heteronormative” proposal, which worked out well!
Chloe said yes, and we walked around a bit to re-enact the proposal in different locations. Jason and Chloe preferred candids. Although I posed them for some of the shots, they ended up making the pose their own, preferring to have fun rather than recreate popular or traditional imagery. They only snuck in one kiss at the end, when the shoot was “over,” and I managed to grab a shot of it :)
A week or two later, Jason totally ate it on a skateboard, and was bandaged up, walking on crutches, so I’m glad he got the proposal in before that! He’s all fine now, FYI.
